Registration and abstract submission continues
Registration for our congress continues. Don't hesitate, register now! We are open for submission of abstracts until the end of this month, 30 September. This date cannot be extended, so make sure you don't miss your opportunity!
In June this year, we presented some of our spirals to you. The spiral is the symbol of the New Nutrition Science project, whose philosophy informs our congress. Unlike linear images, it brings the ideas of fluidity, interchange, circularity and transformation. That is exactly what World Nutrition Rio2012 is all about. How did the spiral become this flow of colours we see in the congress visual identity? And now, below, here is the Rio2012 banner, featuring our spirals. Download it here, print it off, and share it with colleagues and friends. Best of all, fix it on notice-boards so colleagues feel inspired to register, come to Rio, and participate.
Our visual identity reflects the key beliefs of World Nutrition Rio2012: open dialogue, engagement of young professionals, and the importance of a participatory and democratic process. The video above shows how the spirals that constitute our visual identity, including the website, the banner and other materials, were produced.
The spiral is constantly used in our website and in World Nutrition. For Rio2012 our partners Abrasco decided to develop the spiral image and to create a multitude of Brazilian images. In total, the team in Rio produced more than 500 pictures of spirals, including handicrafts, people (interlocked hands) bellybutton, hair), water in movement, salad, cake, and many others, as you see above. During the congress, all the spirals will be shown in an exhibition for our participants, and will be available for sale as souvenirs.
The process involved people directly involved in the congress, and also other nutritionists, academics, researchers and students, mainly from the state university of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), the Annes Dias Institute of Nutrition, the National School of Public Health (ENSP/FIOCRUZ) and the municipality of Rio de Janeiro. The team was guided by designer Carlota Rios, and nutritionist and photographer Ana Beatriz Pinheiro.
All participants helped in giving ideas, but also in the entire production process. They went to food fairs in search of ideas, produced handicrafts, tried recipes at home, took their own pictures for ideas, talked with their families – many other things! Apart from the professional designer, everybody worked as volunteers. Their reward, as they all said, was that the process was full of joy, cheerfulness, creativity, togetherness, learning, solidarity and lightness, which they will always remember.
